The Sierra Waterproof Coat by Teckelklub
I never thought I’d put clothing on my dog. Mind you, I do not judge if you choose to dress up your dog. I just always said it would not be me. Flash back to Harley and I living in Rhode Island in 2006. One snowy afternoon we were out for our daily walk around our neighborhood. I was bundled up with boots, a heavy coat, gloves and a hat. A neighbor braved the cold to holler down the street, “If you are wearing a hat on your head, that dog needs a coat”. My first inner reaction was feeling indignant-I love my dog and try and take good care of him. The more I thought about it though I realized she had a very excellent point. Yorkie dogs, like Harley and Shasta, have hair instead of fur, so if I am cold enough to wear a hat on my head I she was right, he needed a coat.
Flash-forward to now, we have quite the collection of dog outdoors gear and are always excited to find and try the latest and greatest. We hike, backpack, paddleboard, boat, kayak, camp and more with Shasta and though we now live in California, we still spend a lot of time in the snow.
Over the last few months, we have been introduced to Teckelklub. They generously donated The Sierra Waterproof Coat into our Travel Gear prize package for the Holidays, Hounds and Hot Buys Gift Guide and Giveaway and gave one to Shasta for an honest review.
You would never guess, since our family spends so much time outdoors, that Shasta is a bit of a pussyfoot (sorry to take our cat friends name’s in vain). He has been known to poke his head out the doggie door, feel the rain, and pee with his head out the door and hind area still inside the house. Making sure he gets out for a walk, even in the rain, is important. Most of the coats we use do not give full coverage. If they have the coverage, then they cover the parts that need to be left out for a walk where peeing is the ultimate goal. Additionally, we take him out in the snow and those same parts need to be available for use. At the same time, the area where the harness is exposed for his leash, allows water or snow access and he comes home with very wet belly fur/hair.
Enter The Sierra Waterproof Coat. The Sierra is made with high quality 100% waterproof and breathable fabrics. They provide excellent protection for all of the activities we like to enjoy with Shasta. One of my favorite parts is the cover over that pesky opening in the back where the leash attaches to the harness. Additionally, it has great coverage around his body, leaving those aforementioned important parts exposed for use while covering the rest of his body. Another terrific feature is a high quality, anti-pill fleece lining for extra warmth. When in the snow, we are able to add an additional layer of fleece underneath the coat for added warmth.
Shasta received the Plum, one of their new colors, and he really looks handsome. Other colors it comes in are Harvest Orange, Sky Blue and Storm Grey we have seen them on our furry friends and think they all look great!

The doggie door story cracked me up. If we had a doggie door, Ruby would definitely do the same thing. She HATES the rain. We love our Sierra jacket, too. The fit is perfect and nice that it gives such full coverage – also waterproof in the snow.
Yeah, the 1st time I saw Shasta do the doggie door stunt I was so surprised I didn’t even have words. BOL. We used both a fleece and the Sierra in the snow yesterday and it was amazing! No post snow bath required!
Henry HATES the rain but his new Sierra helps a bit 🙂 It gives him a lot more coverage than his last raincoat, so we’re total converts!

Thanks for your post. I’ve been wondering whether this little coat is a good choice and was concerned about breathability. But you and other people here seem happy, that’s good to know. Thanks for sharing!
I’m so glad we could help with your decision. We love our coat and fleece we have from Teckelklub! Let us know what you think.
