I never imagined my life would lead me here. In 2006, if you had told me I would become a self-published children’s picture book author with a pet blog focusing on dog health, I would have chuckled in disbelief. Yet, life has a way of surprising us in the most delightful ways.

It all began with a furry friend named Harley. From the moment he entered my life, he wrapped me around his paw with his first lick, paw, snuggle, or just a simple look. Harley wasn’t just a dog; he was my companion, my confidant, and my source of boundless joy.

But then came the devastating news: Harley was diagnosed with diabetes. As a Nurse Practitioner, I was no stranger to the complexities of this disease in humans, but I never fathomed it could affect our beloved canine companions. The diagnosis hit me like a tidal wave of emotions – disbelief, fear, and heartache.

However, amidst the uncertainty, my wonderful vet became a beacon of hope. With reassurance and expertise, they reminded me that animals, like humans, can thrive with diabetes. “You caught it early,” they said, “and that means Harley can still live a long, happy life.”

Those words ignited a flame within me – a determination to turn our journey into something more than just a personal struggle. And so, inspired by Harley’s resilience and our shared experiences, I embarked on a mission to spread awareness and support for others facing similar challenges.

“Harley’s Story” is just the beginning! I don’t want a pet or child to go undiagnosed “How to Tell if your Child or Dog has Diabetes“. I also want children with special needs to know they are not alone.
