Did you catch what happened to me last week? I was getting ready to put up our weekly Snapshot Sundays post and received the message, “http error code”. Thank goodness I have a website 911 rescuer on speed e-mail but more on that later.
If you are like me you didn’t and maybe still don’t have the budget to hire a web designer/manager. I started my web site and blog in 2014 after I’d written a children’s picture book, “Harley’s Story”, and everything I read said I needed to have a blog.
I am voracious when it comes to information (ask my husband about watching any “based on a true story” movie with me) so I began researching, in other words searching Google, to find out everything I could about designing a website and writing a blog. I watched more YouTube videos than I care to count (I also now have a YouTube channel something I never thought I’d say). YouTube is my go to information site since as you learn you also get to visualize the how to for everything. My main researched topics include web design, WordPress help, blogging, pet information and now WooCommerce. It’s also where I ran into Websites made easy. James Stafford is worth every dime of the $7/month subscription. Since I’d chose my host, iPage, my platform, WordPress, and theme before I started watching YouTube I ended up needing to translate the information provided into the theme I was using. I am neither a coder nor web designer (I am a Nurse Practitioner) so this proved VERY difficult. Though I love my Website design if I had it to do again I’d choose a WordPress theme directly on their site. Many are free and for ease I’d sick with those.
Then you might remember the time I lost my search button? You can read about it on the post, “Developing Your Own Website: Learn from my Mistakes”. I feel the unfortunate loss and inability to figure out how or where it went led to an even greater find, my Website 911 Rescuer Richard from Calyx Design.
I feel strongly this is an ABSOULTE MUST HAVE member of your team. I love that I have the knowledge to run my own website but not having the skills as a designer or coder there are just some things I cannot do and/or figure out. Richard has a very reasonable price and an hourly rate so we can trouble shoot my website dilemmas as they come up. I am so grateful to have found him and don’t know what I would do without him.
Last week he discovered what was happening with the “http error code” which he had to track down through my numerous plugins. He fixed the issue and made recommendations for dialing back on the amount of plugins I have (2 Google Analytics Plugins, yeah probably not necessary). Richard, my Website 911 Rescuer and invaluable part of my team, THANK YOU!
